Moving Out? What To Do With Everything You're Not Taking

Moving day has a way of turning “we'll deal with it eventually” into “we have 48 hours.” Here's a practical way to handle everything that isn't coming with you, so it doesn't become the landlord's problem, the new owner's problem, or a last-minute scramble the night before the truck shows up.

Start the Sort Early, Not Moving Week

Three piles: keep, donate, haul away. Doing it room by room a few weeks out beats doing it all in one exhausted pass the night before, and it gives donation trips and a pickup time to actually get scheduled.

What Not to Leave Behind

Leaving furniture curbside, in a garage, or in an empty unit and assuming it's someone else's problem usually backfires: most leases and closing agreements expect the space to be broom-clean, and leaving stuff behind can mean a deducted deposit for a tenant or a holdup at closing for a seller. If you're not sure what can and can't be hauled at all, our pickup prep page covers what a junk removal company legally can't take.

Donate What's Still Good

A lot of what doesn't make the move is still perfectly usable, it just doesn't fit the new place. When we haul, usable items get donated when possible rather than dumped. If you'd rather drop things off yourself on the way out, our drop-off guide has real addresses and hours for donation and disposal facilities around Central Florida.

When to Call a Hauler Instead of Renting a Truck Yourself

If what's left is more than a car trip or two, includes heavy furniture or appliances, or you're already down to the wire on moving day, hiring it out usually beats burning your last free hours on dump runs. A single item is our $165 minimum, and a bigger load, like clearing an entire garage or storage unit before the move, gets a free on-site estimate instead of a guess.
